2) Get verified by us
If you want to see the complete list of internships, we are legally required to verify you meet the minimum conditions:
- Confirmation of Enrolment
- Transcript of Records
- English Certificate
- CV in English
3) Define your ideal internship
This is the fun part!
After verification, you have to define your ideal internship - duration, location, subject etc. This takes 10 minutes tops.
Remember: this is still non-binding, the TUHH receives more internship opportunities the more people apply!
4) Select your top 5 internships!
Late January, we receive a complete list of available internships for applicants from German universities.
Now you must be quick: check the list, send us your top 5 preferred internships and we will fight to get them, ahead from other IAESTE teams in Germany!
5) Get nominated!
Mid-February, we announce which internship opportunities we were able to secure for applicants studying in Hamburg.
You will get a deadline by which you need to commit to one internship opportunity or withdraw from this season.
Don't worry: withdrawing actually is a bonus for the next application season OR for the FCFS opportunities (see FAQ below)
6) Prepare for your internship!
After being nominated by us for an internship, uploading all your application documents, and paying the application deposit, it is time to relax and wait for the acceptance by the employer!
In the meantime, we help you find additional funding sources like Erasmus Internships and Travel Bursaries.
Once you receive the confirmation of your internship by email, it is time to get packing!

Is it really risk-free?

Actually, there is: the IAESTE Internship Exchange! As an international, government-mediated association governed by an international charter, our mission is to exchange internships and thus students between the countries of the world. And nations all around the world do not want this to cost YOU ANYTHING.
There are two distinct phases to how we work from the point of view of an applicant:
Phase 1: You risk nothing by registering your tentative interest for an IAESTE internship.
Phase 2: Once you commit to apply to a specific internship, you provide a returnable deposit (after signing the deposit agreement and ToCs) to ensure us you take the application seriously. Employers do not like spam, just like you.
The deposit is returned upon successful completion of the internship and report or in case the employers cancels, or in case of extenuating medical or political circumstances.

You can apply for FCFS (First Come First Serve) and COBE (Continuous Online Based Exchange) internship opportunities throughout the year. Applications for AC (Annual Conference) internships begin in October each year and close with the application deadline in mid-March. Click here to learn more about the different offer types.
How much does an Internship cost?
Normally an IAESTE internship should be a zero-sum outcome for you: Your employer will pay you a salary that should be enough to cover the apartment and cover the cost of living. You also should take a look at the Fahrtkostenzuschuss of the DAAD! For internships in the Erasmus region, the TUHH international office will be able to give you an additional scholarship - stack those bonuses!
We ask you to provide a deposit of €100 in order to take care that you take the application process seriously. Your deposit will be returned after we receive your internship report - but beware: you have a four-week grace period after the end of your internship (as per the O-Form or bilateral agreements) or if the internship was cancelled by the employer.
You won't get your deposit back if you have been accepted by the employer and then decide to not partake in the internship. IAESTE worldwide will suffer a bad reputation and you take away someone's opportunity to take that place instead.
Annual application cycle
October - January
This is what you are interested in! The pre-application phase. The phase is between October and the first week of January in the following year.
In October you are asked to register as a student on the IAESTE Exchange Platform (EP), our ERP system. This includes all the needed personal information, including contact details, your field of study and similar. The verification of your account will be done after you uploaded a CV, an p -to-date transcript of records, a valid certificate of enrollment and a language certificate affirming your English skills.
After the verification, you can complete your profile so that the global IAESTE network can find a suitable internship offer for you. APPLY NOW!
End of January
In January, all member nations exchange internship placements at a big international conference. We then announce which internship offers have been exchanged to IAESTE Germany. It is a list with around 700 jobs in over 80 nations worldwide. Each offer on the list contains information about the possible timeslot of the internship. the duration, the required study level and major, the language requirements and other required abilities.
You are asked to choose up to 10 favorite placements. But please read the requested criteria carefully as most employers won't accept you if you don't fulfill all of them.
Please be aware that it is possible we won't get one or all of them to Hamburg to distribute it to you. Please take a close look at the offers in less known countries, as they are generally really interesting and chances are higher you get the offer
February
In febuary there is a national conference where each local committee is aiming to take home the offers, which suit the wishes of each of their students best. Directly after the conference we send you either a mail with
a) a direct approval because we got your offer and you're the only student from Hamburg who was interested in it b) a request to write a motivation letter because we got your offer but you're not the only student from Hamburg who was interested in it c) a denial because unfortunately, we didn't get your offer.
We will also send you a list of late offers via email.
March
Students who have been approved (either directly or after sending their motivation letter and being accepted) will have to apply to their employer by March 30th. Over 80% of employers accept students if they fulfill all the requested criteria (e.g. study major, study level, language level). Don't worry, we will help you to prepare the application to the employer.
Summer
Starting May students receive their acceptance letters from their employers. You can now start to apply for a Visa if required, book your flight, search for accommodation (if not provided by the IAESTE committee in the guest country), and apply for the traveling allowance at the DAAD ("Fahrtkostenzuschuss") and enjoy your IAESTE experience.
