Welcome to Hamburg!
Hello traveler, or how you would say in Hamburg: “Moin, Reisender”. We are happy
that you found an internship place in Hamburg. IAESTE Hamburg is here to help
you as much as possible to have a pleasant stay in the city. In the following, we would like to give you some “Good-to-know”-Information
for your stay. For any questions, write us at info@iaeste-hamburg.de or on Instagram.
Before departure:
First, you don’t need to worry about finding an
apartment. We’ll take care of that. Second, for a warm welcome in the city, one
of us will pick you up from the Airport. And lastly, we’ll help you with organising a Sim Card for your mobile phone, Public Transport Ticket etc..
Please bring enough money to cover the first month's expenses, as your company will pay you at the end of each month. As
insurance, you usually get the DAAD internship insurance which includes a combination of
health-insurance, accident-insurance and a private liability-insurance before
coming to Germany. We will provide you with the insurance documents when you
arrive. Last but not least, be aware that Germany may have different types of sockets than your
home country.
Daily Life in Hamburg:
In Hamburg, a lot of people speak English, so don’t worry, you can easily find your way around without speaking German. Your salary will always cover the minimum cost of living, and we will hand it over to you in cash.
To navigate ythrough the city, Google Maps or the HVV-APP (Public Transport App, but not in English) are the right choice.
If you want to travel through Germany, you might use the trains (e.g. Deutsche Bahn, Flixtrain), the busses (e.g. Flixbus) or ride sharing services (e.g. BlaBlaCar).
Important telephone numbers are the Police (No.: 110) and the ambulance/firefighters (No.:112).
